Silage silos work well not only on sizable farms, but also on small agritourism farms. When raising cows or cattle, many farmers rely on decent and sturdy silage silos. More and more farmers are also opting for prefabricated silos. They have many advantages, and what’s more, they are becoming a more popular solution than traditional silos.
Silage silos are the structures most often erected on farms. They are used to store food for cattle, mainly cows. They allow the food to be ensiled properly so that a fit feed for animals is created. It is worth opting for silos made of prefabricated, that is, ready-made elements. This is a solid and “for years” solution, and saves a lot of time.
CHARACTERISTICS OF SILAGE SILOS
When deciding to farm and raise livestock, it is also worth taking care to build appropriate silos. These silos store food – mainly roughage for cattle. The most common form of feed is silage. Silage is very often created from corn or hay (here we can distinguish between grass silage or legumes). A good silage silo must therefore be spacious to accommodate a lot of animal feed.
In addition, oxygen cannot get there, because by doing so, the food will not undergo the ensiling process as quickly. More quickly, unfortunately, the food may spoil. Therefore, it is worth opting for a silo that is durable and long-lasting, impervious to excess oxygen. An extremely apt choice these days, is to bet on a prefab silage silo. It is distinguished by a number of positive features against classic solutions.
USE AND ADVANTAGES OF SILAGE SILOS
By using prefabricated elements to erect a silage silo, time is saved, first of all. The elements are merely brought to the construction site and can be erected. No time needs to be spent concreting the individual walls and chambers. A prefabricated concrete silo is smooth, so no plastering or smoothing is required. They also do not need a film to pad the sides of the heap, when ensiling the feed. Most importantly, the silo slabs are made of top-grade C35/45 concrete – strong and durable.
Concrete is resistant to changing weather conditions and temperature fluctuations. Another important feature of prefabricated silage silos is that they are assembled very quickly. Laying out the individual walls and chambers is not troublesome. A professional construction team is able to handle the work very quickly. The walls of the silos can also be dismantled very easily, since the individual elements are connected to each other by a special adhesive.
Concrete silos for silage built from prefabricated elements can be erected in a closed version – with a back wall or in a mobile version – without a back wall. Modular construction of the silo allows you to easily adjust the size and type of silo to the current needs of the farm. No waste of materials and space.
CONSTRUCTION OF SILAGE SILO
We offer silage silos in two types: for smaller farms, we have prepared silos with lower walls and very simple assembly, which the invertor is able to perform himself or with the help of our specialized assembly team. Silage silo walls are then available in three heights 1.8m / 2.5m / 3.2m. For larger farms, we recommend silos with a special footing. In this case, the silage silo walls are available in two heights: 3m and 4.2m. Higher silo walls allow to minimize the required amount of space allocated to the silo and obtain better ensiling results. The construction of a silage silo erected with footing walls requires a specialized team of fitters.
MONTAGES:
Installation of a silage silo should traditionally begin with the laying of a foundation in the form of concrete. The foundation very often has to be “laid” on its own, the team only comes to install the silo. Laying the walls is done relatively quickly. Depending on whether the silo will be of large size or smaller, the structure can be erected as early as one day. Note that the entire structure must be anchored. There are many prefabricated structures to choose from. It is best to opt for those with high standards. It is worth noting that for the installation of silage silos you need to engage heavy equipment, such as a crane. There is also no getting around the shuttering. It is therefore worth leaving this work to a qualified and professional team.
