Technical parameters of concrete barriers U14B
U14B concrete barriers manufactured in accordance with PN-EN 1317-2 standard defining requirements for road safety barriers. Restraint class H2, crash intensity level B, working width W3 (1.3 m). CE certificate and IBDiM national technical assessment confirm compliance with the requirements.
Dimensions and geometry of the U14B barrier
The U14B concrete barrier has the following dimensions: total height 1070 mm, height to the inflection point 330 mm, base width 600 mm, mid-height width 380 mm, crown width 240 mm. The length of the standard module is 4000 mm, and 2000 mm and 1000 mm modules are also available for curves.
New Jersey type concrete road barrier profile with slope angles: bottom part 55° from vertical, top part 84° from vertical. Transition radius between surfaces 380 mm. Dimensional tolerances ±10 mm for length, ±5 mm for height and width.
Material and strength parameters
Concrete of class C40/50 with characteristic compressive strength fck = 40 MPa. Exposure class XF4 for elements exposed to de-icing salts. Absorption by weight ≤ 5%, frost resistance F200 (200 freeze-thaw cycles).
Reinforcement of concrete road barriers made of B500SP steel with a yield strength of 500 MPa. Longitudinal main bars 6 x Ø16 mm, Ø8 mm stirrups every 200 mm. Reinforcement cover 40 mm from external surfaces. Additional reinforcement in the fastener zones.
Fasteners and connection system
U14B concrete barriers equipped with system loop fasteners made of galvanized steel. Loop diameter Ø32 mm, spacing 500 mm from the base. Connection by pins Ø30 mm with protection against sliding out. Installation clearance between modules 20-30 mm filled with elastic compound.
For concrete barriers on curves, articulated fasteners used to allow up to 5° rotation. Minimum radii of curves: R=50 m for 4 m modules, R=25 m for 2 m modules, R=12 m for 1 m modules. Special starting and ending elements with an inclination of 1:12.
Performance parameters and testing
The U14B concrete barrier passes crash tests TB11 (900 kg car, 100 km/h, 20° angle) and TB51 (13 t bus, 70 km/h, 20° angle). Dynamic deflection of the barrier during the test 0.9 m, working width 1.3 m. Crash intensity index ASI = 1.2 (level B).
The weight of a single 4 m module is 5200 kg (1300 kg/mb). Transport possible in sets of 4-6 pieces. Bearing capacity of the ground minimum 200 kPa for setting without foundation. Design life of 50 years in road environment of class XF4.
